PROFILE

Contemporary artist / Professor, Department of Arts and Crafts, Kyoto University of Art and Design. Born in 1953 in Kyoto, he completed the art course at Kyoto City University
of Arts. He exhibited “Fresh gasoline” at Against Nature in 1989, creating the title of the exhibition. He exhibited at the Venice Biennale Leapert in 1993. He introduced a giant
locust (grasshopper) balloon at the 2001 Yokohama Triennale “Insect World.” He had further exhibitions in 1992 at Lahoya Museum (San Diego), 2003 at Art Tower Mito, 2009
at Kyoto National Museum of Modern Art, and 2012 at Kirishima Art. He also had a solo exhibition at the Nomori Museum of Art. He was the director of the 2013 Setouchi
International Art Festival “Sho no Sato + Sakate Port Project.” He is the director of the Aomori Triennale 2017 and the Artist Fair KYOTO.
