PROFILE
The Hinaru Art Community started in spring 1986 with a co-creative atelier at the former Hinaru Elementary School site in Shiraoi Town, Hokkaido. Since 2011 with the start
of the "making project," the goal has been to transform the abandoned "Hinaru no Mori" behind the school building in the future into a forest where children can interact,
play, learn, get together and revitalize their collaboration and creativity. While maintaining a rotating ecosystem as a basis, we continue our forest-building activities in the
name of the coexistence of forests, people, and work. In 2009, we started a small "Hinaru Arts Festival" with artists and volunteers. At the "Hinaru Arts Festival," held annually
in the village (Mori), multidisciplinary artists participate in the exhibition in the wooden school building and the surrounding forest and interact with many people, both from
in and outside the region, during the production. In recent years, the art festival area has expanded to the town, and a wide range of projects have developed in shopping
districts and local areas. We have been thinking about what only creation, expression, and community can achieve in this land and continue to collaborate and coexist with
our many volunteers.
